Job announcements for June week 3....

Siemens
A consortium led by Siemens has been confirmed as the winner of the 1.6bn contract to make Thameslink train carriages. At the time of winning preferred bidder status, Siemens said up to 300 jobs would be created in a variety of professions in the north east.

Derbyshire County Council
Derbyshire County Council are offering 80 apprenticeships in their move to boost job opportunities for local young people. The latest apprenticeships within the council offer opportunities in 13 areas including Business Administration, Children & Young Peoples Workforce, Creative Digital Media and Customer Services.

WS Atkins
Engineering company Atkins plans to grow staff numbers in Scotland as its energy business is expected to continue reaping the benefits from the strong oil and gas sector and growth in offshore wind. Currently, Atkins has around 50 vacancies in Scotland and expects to continue adding to its workforce in the coming 12 months, including at its Glasgow base which is the centre for UK renewables.

Ashurst LLP
International law firm Ashurst is to create up to 300 jobs by opening an office in Glasgow after being given a £2.4 million regional selective assistance grant to move to the city. The practice will initially recruit 30 legal analysts law graduates who will carry out tasks normally undertaken in London by trainees, junior lawyers and paralegals and will add a further 120 support staff by the end of the year, covering areas such as finance and IT.

Hyder Consulting
London based consultant Hyder has boosted its UK workforce by 10% as workloads continue to pick-up. Latest results from the consultant show a rise in group pre-tax profit to £23.8m for the year to March 31 2013 from £21.6m last time on the back of turnover up to £298.1m from £277.3m.

Moneypenny Investments
Moneypenny, the Wrexham-based phone-answering firm, has seen rapid growth since 2012, creating 50 new jobs to handle 30,000 calls a day. This growth also means more vacancies in technology, marketing, business development and operations / management.

Norbrook
Norbrook, the veterinary pharmaceutical company, is to recruit 400 new staff for its base in Newry, Northern Ireland, in a variety of roles from production to research. The company is expanding to meet growing global demand for its products and services. The Newry site has undergone a £150m expansion. £181m turnover.

Tesco
Retailer Tesco has promoted Michael Comish, Blinkbox founder, to the role of group digital officer. Tesco is opening digital offices in Shoreditch, London, in autumn 2013. It is recruiting 150 staff to work at the new campus, which will house digital entertainment services, including Blinkbox which it acquired in 2011.

Aquira
Shrewsbury based Aquira, a direct marketing firm, is creating 200 jobs in Glasgow following the opening of its offices at Pacific Quay.

Lloyds Banking Group
Taxpayer-backed Lloyds Banking Group has announced 500 new jobs. Lloyds said it would add five UK support sites - in Gloucester, Livingston, Birmingham, Sunderland and Swansea - to the sale of its Verde business. Verde already includes 632 branches. The new jobs will be spread across the five sites.

University of Sheffield AMRC
The University of Sheffield AMRC with Boeing is to create a £43m, 48,000 sq ft research factory to meet the future needs of aerospace and other manufacturing industries. The AMRC has secured a £10m grant from a fund managed by the Higher Education Funding Council for England. The factory will employ 50 researchers and engineers.

Xaar
Xaar Plc, the Cambridge inkjet printing technology company, expects 2013 revenues to increase by 50%, from 86.3m in 2012, due to strong global demand. Xaar plans to invest 12m in R & D in 2013 and increase company headcount to 750, mainly in the Cambridgeshire area, where there are currently 100 vacancies. 500 employees.
