Job announcements for August week 5


Amazon
Online retailer Amazon.co.uk is planning to open a major new warehouse in Liverpool creating up to 1,000 jobs. The 1m sq ft warehouse will be built by Stoford Developments if planning approval is secured.

Lingfield Securities
Lingfield Securities has been given planning permission for a major retail development in Uttoxeter which will create 500 jobs. The project includes an Asda supermarket, a medical practice, a cafè and retail units. It will be completed by the end of 2013.

Bombardier Transportation
Bombardier Transportation is creating 400 jobs at its Derby base to build 2,000 train carriages for Transport for London. Roles are available for engineers, skilled technicians and team leaders. The carriages will be used in a major upgrade of the London tube and rail network.

BT Group
BT Group is recruiting 400 more engineers at its Openreach division, which is deploying FTTC/P fibre broadband networks across the UK. The expansion will allow the network to be deployed at a faster rate and help Openreach meet 2.5bn investment programme targets. Many of the vacancies could be filled by ex-armed forces personnel.

Glasgow Fort Shopping Centre
Glasgow Fort Shopping Centre is to create 400 jobs through a £9 million expansion. 250 jobs will be created during the construction phase, with another 200 once it is finished. The new cinema and five restaurants will be completed in summer 2013.

Monarch Airlines
Monarch Airline is expanding to East Midlands Airport in August 2012 and expects to create up to 200 jobs. Monarch has taken over some routes from BMI Baby and will base two aircraft at the airport.

DRL Holdings
DRL Holdings is to create 160 jobs over six months to February 2013 as it targets £1bn annual sales by 2017. 100 jobs will be created at its call centre in Manchester, with a further 60 in its marketing team in Bolton, Manchester.

Epsom & St Helier NHS Trust
150 new doctors started work at Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust in August 2012. 39 have recently qualified while others are continuing their on-the-job training. The trust is recognised as a leader in education and training.

Easyjet
Budget airline EasyJet is to create up to 120 new jobs at Manchester Airport. The airline is to base a new aircraft at the airport from March 2013 which will take the number of aircraft based there to seven. The company is also planning to grow the number of business travellers it carries to more than a fifth of all passengers.

DRP
DRP, a communication and production specialist, is investing 1m in technology and staff as part of its move to a new head office in Kidderminster, West Midlands. The group plans to employ 100 more people over the three years to 2015.

Fastflow Group
Utility service provider Fastflow is opening a new business which will create 100 jobs. Fastflow Energy Services is a gas infrastructure contractor. The company has won a £500,000 contract to modernise the Alrewas regulator station near Burton-on-Trent.

Fox's Biscuits
Production at Fox's Biscuits' Uttoxeter factory has increased by more than 30 per cent leading to the creation of more jobs to meet the demand. The biscuit manufacturer, part of 2 Sisters Food Group, has created about 100 positions so far this year, taking the total of new recruits to 200 since August 2011.

Debenhams
Retailer Debenhams is opening a new store in Lichfield, creating 60 jobs. It is taking over a 43,000 sq ft unit in the Three Spires Shopping Centre. The store is expected to open in March 2013. Gareth Dougherty is acquisitions manager for Debenhams.

Your Bus
Heanor transport company, Your Bus, is to employ 50 new bus drivers as part of its on-going expansion to add a further 20 buses to its fleet of over 100 vehicles.

Clearanswer Call Centres
CITY call centre Clearanswer Call Centre is aiming to create 50 jobs after securing a contract with TalkTalk.

Atrium Legal Services
Claims management company Atrium Legal Services has created 50 new call centre positions in Rossendale, Lancashire. It currently employs 70 staff and is expanding by taking on an extra 2,600 square feet of office space.

DHL Express
DHL Express has opened a 2.5m parcels hub at Milton Park near Didcot, Oxfordshire, creating 40 new jobs. The park was created as one of 10 new zones across the country in August 2011.

Maven Solutions
Maven Solutions is to expand following its acquisition by Edenhouse Solutions. 30 jobs will be created over the year to August 2013. The company currently has 12 staff and 100 customers. It will be rebranded under the Edenhouse banner.

Scott & Company
Debt recovery firm Scott & Company is opening a new office in Galashiels, Scottish Borders, to meet public sector demand. The office will create 30 new jobs.

City Building (Glasgow)
City Building LLP has secured a 16m contract as part of a multi-million pound development at Maryhill Locks in Glasgow for Maryhill Housing Association. Phase 2 of the project, which includes 106 new rental properties, will create jobs for 14 apprentices and seven new entrant employees.

The Chocolate Café
The Chocolate Cafe, a chocolate manufacturer and retailer, is investing £350,000 in a new chocolate factory which will triple production capacity and create up to 20 jobs. The company has outgrown its premises near Bury, Lancashire after retail sales increased 300% at Christmas 2011. 15 staff are currently employed.

Twitter
Social network Twitter is increasing headcount at its London office from 30 to 45, as part of a strategy to strengthen European sales operation. Sales, creative solutions and research posts are being created. London is the main European sales house for US-based Twitter. Since September 2011 advertisers have been able to buy UK-targeted ad products.

Ufindalocal.com
Internet directory provider, ufindalocal.com is creating up to 15 further jobs in a new call centre in Colchester, Essex. The expanding company anticipates further growth, despite difficult economic conditions. It employs 40 people in Brentwood, Essex, and the new Colchester centre will provide capacity to make a further 500,000 outbound sales calls per annum.

MG Engineering
MG Engineering has relocated to a 10,000 sq ft unit in Flint and increased its workforce from 13 to 20, after securing a £340,000 investment. The business secured a £260,000 commercial mortgage from Barclays.

Plexus Law
The Leeds office of Plexus Law has launched a government backed apprenticeship scheme and will take on seven apprentices on a two-year scheme in the form of a training contract. Plexus has partnered with Leeds sixth form college, Notre Dame College, in offering the new apprenticeships.
