UK's top 10 dream jobs revealed

According to a survey among 3,000 UK adults undertaken by OnePoll and commissioned by Microsoft’s Bing search engine business, a huge three out of five were keen to change jobs, but 46% couldn’t afford to do so, while a further 42% said that they didn’t have the right expertise.

As to what their top 10 dream jobs were, they comprised:
  1. Pilot
  2. Working for a charity/not-for-profit organisation
  3. Writer
  4. Photographer
  5. Musician/singer
  6. Sports trainer/coach
  7. Formula 1/MotoGP/rally driver
  8. Actor
  9. Journalist
  10. Artist

Interestingly, however, nine of the most attractive top 10 professions involved people largely setting their own agenda and having a reasonable amount of control over their own destiny.

Sociologist Jenni Trent Hughes said: “Many of us feel our lives are controlled by our work. We often feel that our work is what we do for a living. In today’s times of economic austerity, many of us feel uncertain about the future so I’m not surprised that most people want to feel in control of what they do day-in, day-out.”
