Job announcements for Feb week 3


Miller Developments
Miller Developments has acquired 93 acres of land at Dyce Drive, Aberdeen and plans to invest £400m to create a new business hub next to Aberdeen International Airport.

Genting Casinos
Genting Casinos has started work on a 150m development at Birmingham NEC. The 538,000 sq ft Resorts World complex, which will include a hotel, restaurants, cinema and shops, should be completed in 2015. It will create 1,750 construction jobs 1,100 direct jobs.

DWF LLP
Law firm DWF has acquired Cobbetts out of administration. Cobbetts appointed KPMG as administrators following poorer than expected trading in November and December 2012. Cobbetts has a 491 staff, including 72 partners, with offices in Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham and London.

BAE Systems
Defence giant BAE Systems, headquartered in Lancashire, is to recruit approximately 400 engineering and business apprentices in 2013 across its UK sites. One hundred and five of these will be based either in Portsmouth or Glasgow.

SSE Energy Supply Ltd
SSE Energy Supply, which trades as Swalec, has opened a Smart Energy Centre in Treforest, Wales, which will create 280 new jobs over the four years to 2017, including domestic appliance installation roles and energy efficiency agents.

Scarborough Council
Scarborough Council in North Yorkshire is to receive 2.6m of government funding. It will be spent on measures aimed at maximising economic opportunities from the proposed district potash mine and the construction of the Dogger Bank wind farm off the Yorkshire coast.

Telefonica O2
Mobile operator O2 has acquired the managed service division of reseller and integrator 2e2, which is expected to enter liquidation. 107 employees will move to O2 as a result of the acquisition. O2, which worked with 2e2 to create joint venture O2 Unify, will now run its own customer services division, previously managed by 2e2.

Hugh James Involegal Llp
Law firm Hugh James has increased its office space in Cardiff and London to accommodate further expansion. In 2012 it increased staff headcount by 15% to 514 and it currently has 33 vacancies.

North York Moors Historical Railway Trust
North Yorkshire Moors Railway has secured an £800,000 government grant to invest in a second track and platform and Whitby station in North Yorkshire. The attraction will take on 15 new staff and the investment is anticipated to create a further 50 jobs in local tourism business.

Seven Technologies Ltd
Northern Ireland based engineering firm Seven Technologies is expanding following support of £854,000 from Invest NI. The expansion will enable the company to tender for more and bigger contracts and increase its portfolio. Sixty one new jobs will be created as a direct result.

Home Instead Senior Care
Home Instead Senior Care, which specialises in at-home care for the elderly, is expanding its operations in Crewe, Cheshire. The company plans to double its team by creating 60 more jobs in 2013, due to unprecedented demand for its services.

YourTV Ltd
YourTV has secured a 12-year licence to produce local TV in Manchester. The company plans to create 50 jobs and is seeking premises. The station could be operational by autumn 2013. It will receive 150,000 from the BBC in return for content.

Capstone Care
Capstone Care is to build a 53-bed home for people with dementia alongside its existing care home in Bury, Lancashire. The £3m investment will create 50 new jobs.

FanDuel
US-based FanDuel is increasing its Edinburgh workforce from 25 to 60 by the end of 2014 after securing £6.9m in new investment. The fantasy sports game operator has secured financing from new investor Comcast Ventures and from existing investors.

Kingston Communications
Hull based Kingston Communications has secured a £2m outsource contract to operate a helpline for Network Rail. The contract will create up to 30 agent positions which may be filled by staff made redundant after Electrical retailer Comet went into administration.

Aspray24
LOGISTICS firm Aspray24 has secured a £4m finance package to help fund the development of its new operating hub. The new 100,000 sq ft warehouse will be located next to Aspray24s current head office meaning the business will operate across a combined 18-acre site.

J W Kane Precision Engineering
J W Kane Precision Engineering, based in County Armagh, Northern Ireland, has secured 900,000 funding from Invest NI. The firm is investing 6m to expand its manufacturing space by 11,000 square feet and purchase new equipment.

W.Boyes & Co Ltd
W Boyes is opening a department store in Bingham, Nottingham, by June 2013, creating 25 jobs. Boyes is to move into the 5,500sq ft former Co-op Pioneer shop in the town. It will be Boyes 45th store.

Fore Fitness Ltd
As part of its business development strategy, easyGym, the trading name of Fore Fitness Ltd, is opening a new gym in Southampton, Hampshire in March 2013. Twenty five new jobs will be created as a direct result. The company is also planning to open three other gyms during 2013, including a flagship outlet in Londons Oxford Street.

SLR Consulting
SLR Consulting, an expanding environmental consultancy specialising in the energy and mining sectors, is adding 20 posts in the UK in 2013, including some at its Newcastle office.
