Job announcements for September week 2...


Battersea Power Station Development Company
Battersea Power Station is to undergo an 8bn development which will create 26,000 new jobs. 3,500 homes, 1.7m sq ft of office space, hundreds of shops and a park. Work is due to start in 2013.

Royal Exchange (Belfast)
The Royal Exchange, a £360m retail development, is to be built in the centre of Belfast. The development is expected to create 1,000 construction jobs and 2,000 jobs in retail and leisure once completed. It will include 50,000 square metres of new retail floorspace, apartments, offices, a hotel, and a new cultural arts centre.

Isle of Anglesey County Council
Isle of Anglesey County Council is to increase investment in towns and villages to increase tourism. The Destination Management Plan will create 1,000 jobs and attract 140,000 extra annual visitors by 2015. A new holiday village will be developed on the outskirts of Holyhead.

Honda (U.K.)
Japanese car company Honda have announced a £267 million investment programme at its UK plant, where hundreds of new jobs have been created to increase production. Around 500 new workers have been recruited this year as part of the expansion plans, taking the total workforce to 3,500. Production at the plant is forecast to double by the end of the year to 183,000 cars compared with 2011, rising to 250,000 within the next three years.

Emis
Leeds-based health technology company EMIS has opened new offices to help accommodate the 289 staff taken on this year to meet growing demand for its software.

Southern Electric Power Distribution
Southern Electric, which is part of SSE, has created 200 jobs at its call centre in Havant, Hampshire. The new recruits will help the company offer customers an annual energy review. With the additional staff, more than 2,800 people work at the Havant call centre.

Shuropody
Warwickshire specialist footcare provider Shuropody is to create more than 200 jobs over the next three years after securing a £3m growth capital investment from the Business Growth Fund. The company plans to expand its garden centre-based sites, as well as the introduction of new community service locations.

Sandwell Council
Sandwell Council is investing in new leisure facilties across the borough, including an £8m swimming pool in Tipton, a leisure centre in West Bromwich and a new swimming pool complex in Wednesbury. The investment is expected to create 165 new jobs.

General Motors
US-based General Motors plans to increase the proportion of IT work done in-house from 10% to 90% as part of a strategy to increase its internal information technology abilities. It plans to recruit 10,000 IT workers over three to five years.

CDL
Insurance software business CDL is to invest £20m in new offices, creating 150 jobs by 2015. Work on the new 4.5 acre site will begin in the first quarter of 2013. Turnover in 2011 was £25m, up from £23m a year earlier. The company currently employs 400 staff.

UK Border Agency
The UK Border Agency and Border Force have rehired 84 staff after headcount was reduced too rapidly. The staff were rehired after six months due to extra demand caused by the 2012 Olympics or with pressure points at overseas posts. A further 20 people were re-employed through agencies.

Systems Adi
Engineering company Systems adi , is setting up a new Headquarters creating 100 jobs to meet the requirements of a new order. The company has an annual turnover of £21.3m

1Call Direct
Glasgow based call centre firm 1Call Direct has opened a new call centre in Larbert and created 100 new jobs. The new centre is the second for the firm.

Fuse Studios
Manchester-based Fuse Studios has been appointed by the Greater Manchester Pension Fund as architect for a project to build a 5m office block in the centre of Preston, Lancashire. Fuse Studios is drawing up plans and building work is expected to start in 2013, with the expected creation of hundreds of jobs.

High Peak Borough Council
High Peak Borough Council has approved plans for a 75-bedroom care home in Buxton, Derbyshire. 80 new jobs will be created at the home. Construction work is expected to start by December 2012. The home will specialise in dementia care and will be built on the site of the former Haddon Hall Hotel.

A J Woods Engineering
Essex-based AJ Woods Engineering is opening a site at the Port of Sunderland, potentially creating 60 jobs. The company, which specialises in complex offshore structures for the renewable, oil and gas industries, is expanding to meet high demand from existing clients and companies looking for services in north east England.

Galliford Try
Construction and housebuilding business Galliford Try has secured contracts worth £100m. The company has been awarded a contract for the regeneration of a hospital in Bristol by the Homes and Communities Agency. The development includes 300 new houses and 16,000 sq ft of mixed use space. It will create 60 new jobs.

Midwich
Midwich, a supplier of audiovisual, electronics, print and imaging equipment to resellers, has increased headcount by 59 in 2012 due to high demand for its products. Midwich has increased its core brands and the range of technologies it offers. It has also expanded internationally, opening a new business in Australia in August 2012.

Arisglobal
ArisGlobal, a software company involved in the life sciences sector, is to expand its European operations in Dublin creating 50 new jobs.

County Insurance Consultants
County Insurance Consultants is relocating to larger premises in Crewe as part of its ongoing expansion. The new 8,500 square foot building will house up to 100 people, allowing 40 more staff to be recruited by 2015. All division of the company are expanding particularly business and fleet insurance.

Chess
Business telecoms provider Chess has opened new offices in Alderley Edge, Cheshire to accommodate its continued growth. £47,000 has been invested in the new premises. The company has created 37 new jobs during 2012 and has expanded its customer base to 28,000.

Sony United Kingdom
Electronics manufacturer Sony has secured a contract to manufacture more than 300,000 Raspberry Pi mini-computers for Premier Farnell, a multi-channel electronic distributor. The computers will be manufactured at the Sony technology centre in Pencoed, near Bridgend, where 30 new jobs are expected.

Homeloan Management
Financial outsourcer Homeloan Management has created 12 new jobs at its call centre in Londonderry and plans to recruit a further 15 staff during September 2012. The company has secured new business in both Ireland and the UK. Bill

Network Rail Infrastructure
Network Rail has recruited 26 new apprentices to its western route to begin a three year training programme. The apprentices have been taken on to be trained within electrification and overhead lines to prepare the company for electrification of routes between 2012-2024. They will train at HMS Sultan, Europes largest engineering training facility in Hampshire.

Milkwood Publishing
Milkwood Publishing is relocating to a £1.2m office and industrial development in Redruth, Cornwall. It will create 21 new jobs at the 9,000 sq ft building. The expanding company produces art greeting cards.

Vickers Electronics
Vickers Electronics, which specialises in energy-saving technology for buildings, has taken extra space at its headquarters in Trafford Park, Manchester, more than doubling the size of the office. The £4.2m-turnover company recruited 8 more staff in August 2012, increasing its team to 29, and 13 more jobs are expected by the end of 2012.

New Moon Pub Company
New Moon Pub Company has acquired the Hanging Gate pub at Weaverham, near Northwich, its third acquisition within a year. The pub will open in December 2012, following a £250,000 refurbishment. 20 jobs will be created. The company is planning to expand further with the opening of a fourth venue.

Stadium Electronics
Hartlepool based Stadium Electronics has secured new contracts to make smart meters and to manufacture electronic boxes for shops. It is creating 20 new jobs to cope with the extra workload. Profits fell from £1.5m to £0.58m in the first half of 2012-13, while revenues fell 10% to £20.9m.

Terrington Gas & Fuels
Terrington Gas & Fuels has opened a fuel distribution and supply depot in Terrington St Clement, Norfolk, creating six new jobs with a further 10 expected in the 12 months to September 2013. The company aims to be the fastest-growing distributor of LPG bottled gas, coal, smokeless fuel, charcoal, and logs in the area.

Macleans Highland Bakery
As part of its business development strategy, family-owned Scottish bakery Macleans Highland Bakery, has invested £365,000 in new equipment, marketing and additional products. The company is planning to expand internationally as a direct result to Australia, the US and China. Fifteen new jobs will also be created.

Gap Europe
Clothing retailer Gap is opening an Outlet store at at St Marks Shopping Centre in Lincoln, creating 15 jobs. The company has signed a ten-year agreement to occupy 8,665sq ft of space at the shopping centre. Gap Outlets sell end-of-line and past season clothing at discount prices.

Hills Waste Solutions
Hills Waste Solutions is converting an existing warehouse into a recyclables management facility, creating 10 jobs for kerbside loaders and 5 jobs for LGV drivers. The facility in Amesbury, Wiltshire, will open later in 2012.

Space RPC
Space, a new retail property consultancy, has been launched by Peter Leverett who becomes managing director. Space will operate from a new headquarters office in Leicester and has already been retained to act for a number of multiple retailers and shopping centre landlords. It has an 8-strong team of staff.

Run and Ride
Run and Ride, an internet cycle and running retailer and event organiser, is planning to open a cycling centre in Hednesford, Staffordshire, creating 8 new jobs. The new facility will allow customers to view and try products before they buy them, and repairs and cycle hire may be offered in the future.

Stephens Scown LLP
Law firm Stephens Scown has completed the first phase of the £1.7m redevelopment of its St Austell office and has created 7 new jobs. The firm received £944,000 for building refurbishment from European Regional Development Funding and £753,000 from property investor DB Gilbert. It employs 230 members of staff.

Northcliffe Media
Northcliffe Media is restructuring editorial production across south-east England putting 38 editorial jobs and 7 production jobs at risk, while four new senior editor positions will be created. The publisher plans to increase user-generated content and further develop digital platforms.
