UK jobs market ‘defying gravity’
The latest ONS figures indicate that the UK unemployment rate declined from 8.3% to 8.1% in the three months to May, with the number of people in work increasing by 181,000 to 29.35m. The number of jobless Britons fell by 65,000 to 2.58m. Unemployment among the 16-24 age group also fell slightly – by 10,000 – but remains just above the million mark.
