There are always examples of companies in all industries announcing high growth,
recruitment drives, expansion and major contract wins. All are great signs for
job-seekers, indicating employment opportunities could be forthcoming and giving
a good reason to contact the employer in the first instance. Here are a few
examples from this week:
Marks and Spencer
London headquartered
British retailer M&S is to open 50 in store banks between 2012 and 2014.
Five hundred new jobs will be created as a direct result. The first bank branch
is to open in London in July 2012 and will be open seven days
a week.
Aker Solutions
The oil and gas technology services company,
Aker Solutions, which currently employs more than 3,000 people across the
UK, is looking to grow its
Aberdeen
operation with 500 jobs over the next 2 years. The Company is also to create
1300 new jobs at a new engineering hub in Chiswick by 2015.
The Celtic
Manor Resort
Celtic Manor Resort is investing 160 million in the resort in
South Wales, creating 200 new permanent jobs
and 700 in construction and supply. The plans include ten luxury chalets and 40
apartments.
Utilitywise
Energy efficiency firm Utilitywise, based in
Tyne and Wear, is continuing to expand and is
signing approximately 70 new contracts a day. As a result the company has taken
on 60 new staff. The company is planning to create a total of 200 new jobs in
2012.
Virgin Holidays
Virgin Holidays recruiting 100 apprentices to
work in its shops. It will open its 100th store in July 2012, and plans to
expand to 110 stores by the end of 2012, creating a significant number of jobs.
2011 turnover 515.3m, 965 employees.
Proact IT
Leading cloud
services enabler Proact has created 50 new jobs at its European Operation and
Support Centre in North Lanarkshire. The
company is targeting skilled technology professionals and graduates to support
the expansion and development of its UK and European operations.
OGL Computer Services Group
OGL computer services doubling the size
of its site in Worcestershire and creating 30 new jobs. The extension will
provide additional office, stores and workshop space, as well as customer
training and demonstration areas. OGL has 200 staff and turnover of £11.5m.
Marishal Thompson & Co.
Marishal Thompson expects business to
grow by 400% following its £5.2m takeover by The Innovation Group in May 2012.
The company is recruiting insurance claims handlers and business administrators
immediately, with between 20 and 25 further jobs expected later in 2012.
Bird & Bird Llp
Law firm Bird & Bird recorded a 10% increase
in total international turnover for 2011-12 to £235m. It recorded growth in each
of its 23 offices across 16 countries. Double digit growth in average profit per
equity partner is expected. In April 2012 a dozen new partners were appointed,
representing a return to 2009 promotion levels.
Tgw
TGW recorded an
increase in sales to £30.3m in the year to June 2011, from £11.6m in the
previous year, while pre-tax profit more than doubled to £2.3m. The expanding
company recruited 20 new staff over the five months to June 2012, increasing its
team to 80.
Velocix
Velocix, which specialises in digital content
delivery over the Internet, has tripled headcount from 35 to 103 and is
recruiting 20 more staff after moving to new headquarters Cambridge. The company,
which has grown rapidly since being acquired by Alcatel-Lucent in July 2009,
expects headcount to reach 123 by January 201. It recorded 11m turnover in 2010.
Enercon Services
German green energy firm Enercon has opened new
offices in the London creating 13 new jobs. The company is the
largest onshore wind turbine manufacturer in Germany and has
installed more than 19,000 turbines in 30 countries.
Rivo Software
Warwickshire-based Rivo Software has recruited 12 new staff as part of its
ongoing business expansion strategy. The company has grown from 3 employees in
2004 to a team of 50 and has expanded its space at the Warwick Innovation Centre
three times. It has also opened a US office and exports its services
