BMW and hybrid engines

There was further good news for the UK car industry when BMW announced that its next generation of hybrid sports car engines would be made in the UK. The engines are to be made at the company’s Hams Hall factory just outside of Birmingham.

Business Secretary Vince Cable said that BMW’s announcement was “another indication that international companies see the UK as one of the best places to manufacture low emission vehicle technologies.”

This will undoubtedly create further jobs at the Hams Hall site and also in the local supply chains as local companies supply materials and products for BMW.

Last year, BMW announced it was investing £500 million into to modernise its UK sites, including Hams Hall and its Mini factory in Oxford.
