2,000-job rail freight depot deal now just weeks away

Plans for a massive rail freight depot in Derbyshire that would create more than 2,000 jobs are back on track.

Severn Trent had to put the plan on the back burner during the recession.

But now it expects to sign a contract with a developer in February for the scheme on 619 acres of land between Etwall and Egginton.

It says a public consultation will begin on the project, on land known as Egginton Heath, once this has taken place. The first clear signs since 2009 that the project is moving forward have been greeted with delight by business leaders.
