Jobs boost for Rolls-Royce as 800 staff added in Derby

Engine maker Rolls-Royce has added an extra 800 people to its Derby workforce in the 12 months to October 2011.

The Derby-based firm told the BBC some of the jobs were moves within the company, but many were new apprentices and graduates. The company received billions of pounds of orders in the last 12 months and delivered its 1,000th Trent 700 engine.
Ian Jackson, an aerospace industry expert, said it was "great news for the local economy". He added: "It also will increase the supplier base which is located throughout the EU and UK. "I would imagine for every job Rolls-Royce produces there are four or five extra jobs in the supply chain.".. read more
