Manufacturing sector struggles as exports fall

Manufacturing orders fell by 19% in November, while export orders dropped by 31%, the Confederation of British Industry's (CBI's) Industrial Trends Survey has found. The Survey revealed that the overall growth of the sector is at -8%, a slight improvement on October's figure of -11%, but the CBI says the sector remains subdued. Ian McCafferty, chief economic adviser at the CBI, explained that there is "heightened uncertainty over global prospects and business confidence is falling sharply".
