Derby Wins £40m Government Funding

Yesterday the Government announced that Derby’s ambitious bid for funding from the Regional Growth Fund had been successful.

£40m has been awarded to fund projects that will lead to the creation of new private sector employment in response to challenges facing the city.

The bid was submitted by the business-led Derby Renaissance Board supported by Derby City Council.

Phil Hickson Leader of Derby City Council says: “We are delighted that the government has agreed to give Derby this support and I am confident we will exceed their expectations on job creation.

I have always argued that Derby is a capable business city and this will help overcome the unprecedented economic shock we have faced this year.”

John Forkin MD of Marketing Derby and member of the Renaissance Board commented, “The last time Derby won government funding on such a scale was the City Challenge fund nearly 20 years ago."

"That enabled the creation of Pride Park and 10,000 jobs. The RGF fund will have a similar positive impact on Derby just when we needed it most. I believe this will result in significant inward investment coming into Derby.”
