Career-changing professionals are set to outnumber new graduates in the teaching profession as they look for a secure career and a less money-obsessed lifestyle, according to official figures. The government’s Training and Development Agency for Schools, responsible for teacher training, says about 70% of inquiries about becoming teachers now come from professionals considering a career switch. The number of career- changers who have applied for teacher training courses is already 35% up on the total for 2008-9, only eight months into the financial year.
