A University of Derby graduate will soon be adding to the bright lights of Las Vegas after completing an order for a new casino complex.

Mike Radford's firm 4D Designs, based at Shed 2 Studios in Heanor Road, has just finished an order for 30 bespoke light fittings for the world's gambling capital.

The Ilkeston-based company, set up by the University of Derby graduate two years ago, specialises in making lighting products made from sustainable materials.

The light installations which have been shipped to America are called "koivu" – the Finnish word for birch – as the lights are made from birch-plywood, which is both flexible and long-lasting.
