Britain risks producing a generation of graduates no more employable than school leavers, unless universities and businesses work better together to deliver programmes relevant for the commercial world, warned Network Rail’s chief executive.
On the day Network Rail announced plans to recruit up to 100 graduates in 2011, its chief executive Iain Coucher lamented the worrying trend of engineering graduates lacking an understanding of the basics and many ‘seemingly coasting through university without getting any grasp of the realities of business’.
