Rolls Royce win £1.5 Billion of new orders in a week

A report last month by independent think tank, the Centre for Cities, confirmed how important Rolls-Royce is to both the Derby and UK economy. The company’s impact on the local economy alone is worth some £4.5 billion. Almost 12,000 of Rolls-Royce’s 39,000 worldwide staff are based in the city of Derby and we are incredibly proud to be a home to this iconic, wealth-creating company. The recent Qantas A380 incident in Singapore has thrown a media spotlight, though yesterday Rolls-Royce shares rose 7.8% following news on progress identifying its root cause. At times like this the advanced technical challenge involved in being a leading aerospace company becomes apparent, last year for example Rolls-Royce invested £864 million in research and development. China Eastern, Egyptair and Tunisair have all confirmed new orders related to the Airbus 330 aircraft, powered by the Trent 700 engine. These contracts include new engines with significantly improved environmental impact and the popular TotalCare support package. The deal is a major global vote of confidence in Rolls-Royce in a difficult economic market.
